5 Must Have Items With A Newborn Baby

6 weeks ago I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Lily :D During my pregnancy, it goes without saying, I was given plenty of tips and advice when it came to my first child. Over the last few weeks there have been a few items that I would be lost without and I wanted to share them with you all.

Aldi Mamia Newborn Nappies

Size 2 - 44 Pack €3.99

When you have to change a nappy at least 12 times a day, believe me, anything that makes your life easier is a godsend! Aldi's Mamia nappies* are genius for lots of reasons, but mainly because they have a wetness indicator! On each nappy there is a yellow line, which magically turns blue when the nappy is wet YAY! Which means no more guess work :D

Aldi Mamia nappies are not only award winnging but they are also dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic, tested for performance against the leading brands, extra soft and breathable, like cotton, super stretchy sides and cute characters, soft dry layer, anti-leakage system, made with fibres from Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

Way too many reasons to love these nappies!
*Pampers also offer indicator nappies, however they are at least twice the price of Aldi's mamia nappy range. I have tried both and personally found no difference between the two ranges.

Lanolin Cream

If, like me, you opted for breast feeding due to it's many, many benefits for your baby, you'll know only too well how painful it can be for at least the first week. Your nipples will be unbelievably sore and chapped. A good friend of mine (thank you Denise!) told me about Lanolin Cream and it has been an absolute dream to use!

HPA® Lanolin provides the safest, most effective relief for breastfeeding moms experiencing nipple soreness. It also doesn't need to be removed from your nipples before breastfeeding as it's completely safe for baby. You just apply a pea-sized amount after each feed to soothe and protect sore, dry, and cracked nipples. It really works!

It contains no Paraffin Oil (Mineral Oil), Synthetic Preservatives such as Parabens, Phenoxyethanol, Formaldehyde Donors, PEG’s and Synthetic Penetration enhancers, Sodium Laureth Sulphate or harsh cleansers, simply because there are gentler, natural alternatives. All great news for you and your new baby :D

Understandably HPA® Lanolin is the #1 recommended nipple cream by lactation consultants and doctors in the US. I cannot recommend this product enough!

Prices from £13.99

If, like me, you have a baby that likes to kick her legs about and in turn kick her blanket off at night, then a Baby Grobag will be your best friend!
Hetty Gro Bag
Grobags help ensure your baby has a safe night’s sleep and remains warm and cosy all the while. There is no need for blankets when using a grobag.
My sister gave me 2 of these and my brother bought me another. I would suggest having at least a couple of these as they are just genius!

The GroBag Store offer unisex designs, designs for boys and girls, various tog strengths and ages. On top of that, they have the cutest designs! I particularly like the 'Hetty Gro Bag' and the 'Baby Bird Gro Bag' for girls :D

All of their Grobags meet UK safety standards including the British Standard, and The Gro Company work alongside the Lullaby Trust Charity to promote infant sleep safety.

Moo Goo

Stockist, Ireland - http://moogoo.ie/stockists

My sister introduced me to Moo Goo and I have since fallen in love with their product range.

It's an Australian company with an entire range of natural and gentle products that are made with effective ingredients and no gimmicks.

MooGoo came about when the head of the Moo Goo company thought it was unusual that his mother was using a product made for cows for her skin condition. The "Udder Cream" being used in dairy farms was designed to help keep the skin on cow’s udders in prime condition for milking. Cow’s udders need to be soft and supple, not dry or cracked. However the original Udder Cream his mother used was very thick to apply. So he set about adapting this cream for humans by making it lighter and non-greasy. Amazing and so clever!

Their product range covers a wide variety of skin conditions and their baby product range is really fab! All of their products are full of healthy ingredients for children and adults, and use nothing they don’t feel is right for their own skin.
Here are just a few of their baby products that I know you will adore!

Moo Goo Nappy Balm - €10.95

As all parents know, babies often get red and irritated skin around the nappy area. This can be caused by either a reaction to urea, or by yeast. The introduction of a barrier cream combined with an anti yeast ingredient is the best way to prevent this. In addition, it would help if the ingredients not only agreed with our skin but our insides too. We all know how much babies enjoy eating anything within arm’s reach. Introducing MooGoo Nappy Balm!

Natural Mini Moo Bubbly Wash - €14.95

Babies need some cleansers in their bath for hygiene. Washing with water doesn’t really remove dirt and ermm..other stuff that gets on babies. But some cleansers can dry the skin, especially those that make bubbles. And every parent knows, BABIES NEED BUBBLES!

The best bubbles are made by Sodium Laureth Sulphate, and this is also a cheap way to make a wash. However, SLS can be very drying and is also a more irritating detergent than more modern natural cleansers. Believe me, I've tried a few baby bubble baths and my little one's skin just got dryer and dryer.

Moo Goo have taken a different approach. Thank goodness! They have combined small amounts of six different natural cleaners as this can be milder on the skin than one concentrated cleanser. They've chosen natural cleansers that bubbled well, although the bubbles don’t last quite as long as with SLS so every now and then the water can be mixed up again to rebuild the bubbles.

All in all, a baby bubble bath that your baby will love and will keep her skin lovely too :D

Moo Goo Scalp Cream - €15.95

A natural moisturiser for Cradle Cap in Babies or Seborrheic Dermatitis in Adults. Multi talented!

Many people, including babies, are troubled by skin that becomes red, dry and sometimes itchy around the scalp, hairline, neck, ears, eye areas, and along the side of the nose and mouth. These are oily areas of the skin and sometimes yeast on the skin can become more prevalent and cause irritation. This version of moisturising cream helps return the skin to a healthy condition. Like all Moo Goo creams, it is safe and non-irritating and can be used anywhere on the body. MooGoo Scalp Cream can also be used as a general moisturiser.

In a nutshell, I can't get enough of Moo Goo and neither will you!

Baby Bath Sponge

Mothercare Foam Bath Support - €9.95

The first time you bath your number baby can be terrifying. You never thought how slippery a human being can be and the idea of dropping your precious little bundle of fun into a bath is horrific. Luckily my sister alleviated my terror by buying me a baby bath sponge.

Suddenly bath time became a pleasure because of this non-slip, light, easy and convenient to use bath sponge I could now lie my baby on for support :D

Baby bath sponges are suitable from birth to approx. 6 months. The extra comfort and support this baby bath mat gives, also allows you to have your hands free for washing and play time. A total must have!

It goes without saying that I am no baby expert, however I can't stress enough how much simpler these items and products have made my new mummy life.

Baby kisses to all you mummies and daddies out there,
